Are the Dinosaurs Dead Dad? Russell Ayto Julie Middleton 9780552563666 Books Reviews
The dialogue between an inquisitive child and his know-it-all father in this book is nice and simple, leaving plenty of space for giant, hilariously quirky depictions of dinosaurs in the museum, their “caution” signs… and their strange activities which seem to indicate that maybe they aren’t as extinct as dad keeps claiming.
We all love this book! I'm buying us a copy (we've had it out of our library) and one for our nephew.
My 2yo says "Oh, Dave." every time Dave says "Oh." in the story.
My 5yo asks for it to be read - my 8yo, 9yo and 12yo read it to them or cuddle around to listen. And we all crack up listening to the 2yo.
But the older kids, my husband and I all want to know *what happens next????*
Please, Ms. Middleton and Mr. Ayto - more stories about Dad and Dave! (It doesn't have to be a direct sequel, but a sense that they survived would be nice -I'm sure Mr. Ayto can suggest it subtly in his clever pictures!)
We'll be watching for more!!!!
Kids are absolutely going to love this story because the little boy is telling the truth but his dad just doesn’t see the fact that these dinosaurs are alive! My boys were in giggle fits that the dad was so clueless.
Kids so rarely get to be right that they absolutely delight in the fact that the child sees what’s going on while the dad walks through the museum unaware. Only when the T-Rex starts chasing them does the father finally realize his son is right.
In addition to the story, we all enjoyed how each page focuses on one type of dinosaur, giving you the pronunciation as well as a sign (placed by the museum) warning you about the creature.
Dave and his Dad are visiting the Museum of Prehistoric Dinosaurs. They have very long odd names that are hard to pronounce, but Dad takes the time to pronounce the names slowly so Dave will learn how to pronounce them correctly. But after Dad walks off from each Dinosaur leaving Dave to continue to stare ate the creatures they come alive. Dad told him it was just his imagination because they are indeed dead. Boy does Dad get a big surprise when the badest of all dinosaurs ends up following them. What will they do?
I couldn't wait to look the Dinosaur names up on the computer to learn even more about them. Very interesting indeed!
The story is fun and information and a lot of imagination in the author's writings. The illustration are very funny, unique and creative and depicts the author's story to a T, Tyrannosaurus that is.
I recommend this book.
Disclosure I received a free copy of this book from the Peachtree Publishers for review. I was in no way compensated for this review. It is my honest opinion.
Dave and his father visit a dinosaur museum. As they stop at each exhibit his dad tells him the name of each dinosaur. As they leave Dave sees the dinosaur do something. One winks, one tickles, one eats his burger. So he asks his dad if dinosaurs are dead. Each time his dad assures him that the dinosaurs are dead. But after each exhibit Dave begins to wonder if his dad is right. My children and I really enjoyed this book. The illustrations are simple and visually help to tell the story. The writing is engaging and funny, even as it teaches children dinosaur names and other interesting facts about them. At the base of each exhibit is the name of the dinosaur with a pronunciation guide and the meaning of the name. As a parent, I found this very helpful when trying to read the story. The story ends on a humorous note that my children really enjoyed. The larger size book and creative illustrations help immerse the child into what is happening on each page.
I received this book free of charge from Children's Lit in exchange for my honest review.
Lots of fun and surprises during a visit to the museum.
