Stephanie Cole, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Roger Allam star in the first series of the hit sitcom about the tiny charter airline for whom no job is too small, but many, many jobs are too difficult. By John Finnemore ('The News Quiz', 'That Mitchell & Webb Sound') Run by the forbidding divorcée Carolyn Knapp-Shappey (an unfortunate marriage, namewise, but in Carolyn's opinion, marginally better than Carolyn Shappey-Knapp), her two pilots are the smooth, experienced and almost-certainly-fired-by-a-big-airline-for-all-round naughtiness Douglas, and struggling almost-competent pilot and sweaty man Martin. All-round help is provided by Carolyn's near-idiot son, Arthur...In the first of the complete six episodes - ""Qikiqtarjuaq"" - when MJN Air flies a party of tourists near the North Pole, Arthur goes hunting for polar bears, Carolyn for a rogue lemon and Martin for a believable French accent...

Then we travel to episode 2 - ""Paris"", and when a bottle of highly-expensive whisky goes missing, Martin becomes the Miss Marple of MJN Air with Arthur assisting as his trusty Doctor Watson and Douglas hindering as his untrusty prime suspect. On to part 3, ""Newcastle"", where love is in the air, but also unfortunately in a small airport in Birmingham - and Martin has to choose between career, romance and fixing a very small tail-light. Part 4 finds us on the way to ""Ottery St Mary"". Martin is a Man With A Van, Douglas flies A Plane With An Otter and Carolyn dates A Pilot With A Problem With Sheep. And two mysteries solved - the name of Carolyn's dog and the rules of "Yellow Car".

Arriving at episode 5, ""Rotterdam"", it's Lifejacket, Camera, Action as stardom beckons for one of the crew of MJN Air... but who will get to blow the final whistle? And will they look good in a vest? And in the last episode of the series - ""St. Petersburg"" - some vodka and an unwary bird could spell the end of the line for MJN Air, and when Carolyn meets her ex-husband the atmosphere turns even icier.... With special series guests Timothy West, Anthony Head ('Buffy') and Mark Williams ('The Fast Show').

Cabin Pressure The Complete Series 3 (Audible Audio Edition) John Finnemore, Stephanie Cole, Benedict Cumberbatch, Roger Allam, BBC Worldwide Limited Books Reviews

Yes, I discovered Cabin Pressure because of Benedict Cumberbatch but stayed because of the snappy writing & great acting. John Finnemore is a genius and I am sad that this great series is coming to an end.

If you like comedy, I highly recommend the entire series! In one word, it's "Brilliant!"
Well, it's certainly biggest. And best, if you ask me. Series 3 of this wonderful (and woefully under-appreciated) show is, in my humble opinion, the absolute best Cabin Pressure has to offer. Series 1 and 2 are fantastic, and should certainly be enjoyed before listening to Series 3, but this is where writer John Finnemore and his fellow actors (Benedict Cumberbatch, Roger Allam, and Stephanie Cole) take their work to the next level.

There just isn't an episode (or even a moment, really) that doesn't work this time around. We start of with a bang in Episode 1 as the crew charter some tourists up to the Arctic in search of polar bears. In the process, Arthur becomes a 'bear expert', Martin has to pretend he's French, Douglas is the epitome of unprofessional (on purpose), and somehow Carolyn doesn't lose her mind. The 'Traveling Lemon' goes down as one of the all-time great in flight games the crew has ever created.

And from there we're off for Birling Day round 2 ("I think the First Officer might be MAGIC."), meeting new friends and old while shuttling a crew for a Scottish Airline, delivering a piano to Ottery St Mary for Martin's side job (And, in arguably the series funniest moment, learning from Douglas where the name Ottery St Mary truly comes from), filming a pre-flight safety movie ("We could film it like a disaster movie!"), and finally, finding a way to save GERTI from Carolyn's ex-husband in St Petersburg.

*I should also note that Benedict Cumberbatch does not appear in the episode 'Newcastle', as he was ill the day of the recording. Tom Goodman-Hill does an admirable job filling in as Martin, particularly embodying the character's wonderful awkwardness around women.

From beginning to end, I'm not sure I ever stopped laughing. If you've listened this far, I cannot recommend Series 3 highly enough. And remember, you're ALWAYS playing 'Yellow Car'.
I love this series! It never fails to make me laugh! The writing is solid and the characters portrayed very well.
Great value and the quality perfect. Packaging great too. This is a must for any fan. I hope to get #4 soon!
By season 3 I have come to love and care for these characters. Finnemore's writing and the cast's acting never disappoints. When I literally have to stop driving because I am laughing so hard that is the mark of a truly great comedy writer.
I listen to these in the car, and re-listen. They still make me smile.
Where to start. Still funny as ever and the development of the characters continues to grow. Douglas is still snarky as ever but does show he can be human at times. Martin continues to be insecure and the two Martins thing certainly doesn't help. I geeked out hearing Anthony Head's voice (it's Giles from Buffy the Vampire Slayer!) as Herc Shipwright. Dad truly was eccentric. What else is there to say? Otters, yellow car, lemons, polar bears!, etc. Brilliant!
We are fans of Cumberbatch, so that does factor in ... however, even still, we were concerned that this would turn out to be kind of lame. And we weren't quite sure at first, but we hung in there and by the end of the 2nd cd of Series 1, we were at times having to push pause so that we could laugh without missing something! Witty, quick, clever,& hilarious! The characters are solid and consistent and the flow clips along at a good pace. Listening from beginning to end is recommended, as the relationships and quips build on themselves as it goes on. My husband, myself, our 17 year old son and 21 year old daughter, all laughing out loud. If you like the sarcastic, sardonic, ironic wrap-around English humor, you're going to love this. And totally PG to boot!

We HIGHLY recommend this radio program, and have eventually ordered ALL of the rest! Also sent "From A-Z" Edition to my parents, who absolutely love it, too! 😄

If I had to do it over again, I would have gone STRAIGHT to the $79.95 "A-Z" Edition, as that includes every single episode there is. I had Series 1, then proceeded to purchase each succeeding Series one by one for $32.00 each. (1-4, the Xmas Edition, which is available only in downloadable audio, and the Zurich finale which is only one episode I believe for $14.95) Totaling about $145! And I listened to the Xmas edition complimentarily with a free trial of something, then cancelled. SO, I would've been much better off just getting the entire set right at the outset, but I didn't realize they were going to be so addicting... save yourselves! Buy the Set!
