About the Author
Sir Winston S. Churchill was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1953 “for his mastery of historical and biographical description as well as for brilliant oratory in defending exalted human values.”
Over a 64-year span, Churchill published over 40 books, many multi-volume definitive accounts of historical events to which he was a witness and participant. All are beautifully written and as accessible and relevant today as when first published.
During his fifty-year political career, Churchill served twice as Prime Minister in addition to other prominent positions—including President of the Board of Trade, First Lord of the Admiralty, Chancellor of the Exchequer, and Home Secretary. In the 1930s, Churchill was one of the first to recognize the danger of the rising Nazi power in Germany and to campaign for rearmament in Britain. His leadership and inspired broadcasts and speeches during World War II helped strengthen British resistance to Adolf Hitler—and played an important part in the Allies’ eventual triumph.
One of the most inspiring wartime leaders of modern history, Churchill was also an orator, a historian, a journalist, and an artist. All of these aspects of Churchill are fully represented in this collection of his works.

I have only read vol 1 & 2 so far- these are hefty tomes, even on kindle-and I am not, per se, particularly an aficionada of military history, more like a mildly interested one...Still I have read quite a bit of it;and I have to say that these volumes top anything pertaining to military history I have ever read.Boy, could that man write...
Also because of Churchill's writing skill his books are so far more than military history alone. The author understood the subtleties of high level political decisions. He understood the minds of high level military thinkers, down to the finer points and you can tell he operated at such high decision making levels himself and therefore understood how all that works. Which affects how he writes about battles and preparations for battles and the politics behind them and the personalities so that it really makes for very good reading
And, since he could really, really write a military narrative of events long past ,which could be tedious becomes immediate, thoughtful and vivid.

If you like history this is a must read! To understand what is happening right now follow the path of this historical account-history is repeating itself!
Not exactly history, but written to restore the name of an ancestor. Interesting as it details the infighting about historical reputations. From a man whose record at the time was controversial, before becoming the great man of WWII. And yet more controversial. .Taking responsibility is hard, from a man who knows how hard it can get.
Amazing writing quality, yet not a difficult read. The version doesn't handle in-line quotes in the Browser tool, although they're perfect on the itself.... This one is really a must read.
A classic telling the story of the young John Churchill. Equally interesting are the English and French monarchies from Charles II to William of Orange. There are many parallels between the politics of this period and today's election muddle.
Queen Ann and Blenheim are Volume II.
This is Winston Churchill at his finest describing his ancestor, the Duke of Marlborough, John Churchill, as a young man beginning to make his mark in 17th century Europe. Volume I sets the stage for Marlborough's great service to his country, England. I look forward to three more volumes. I promise, you won't get bored.
The writing is superb, as it always tends to be with Sir Winston, and I very much enjoyed the first volume. This, however, is an in depth study, and is certainly not light reading. If you love British history, enjoy biographies in general and military biographies specifically, and want to learn about the roots that support the Churchill family tree...this is the book for you. It requires an investment in time, but for me, it has been well worth it and I am looking forward to volume two in this series of four!
I've just started reading this first book in the 4 book series and right away I am blown away by the exquisite prose! It's really wonderful and easy to read such intelligent writing! I also enjoy reading history and biographies, so this is a treat. It has all the elements of a great mini-series, intimate facts about people living in extraordinary times and participating in historical events of great significance. A behind the scenes look at the processes and thoughts of individuals that propelled the action in our history.
